Nathalie Fillion

Auteure, metteuse en scène, actrice de formation, pédagogue (ESCA-Asnières et Ecole du Nord), elle met en scène ses textes, explorant des formes et des formats divers. Polyglotte, musicienne, voyageuse, elle collabore régulièrement avec des musiciens et des chorégraphes. Ses textes sont traduits en plusieurs langues, présentés et joués en Allemagne, Etats Unis, Russie, Italie, Arménie, et au Québec, où elle a tissé de nombreux liens artistiques.

Mise en scène depuis 2004 : Alex Legrand (l’Harmattan), tragi-comédie, jouée 100 fois et saluée par la critique, Pling, conte musical (Bonhomme Vert), A l’Ouest (Actes Sud-Papiers) comédie épique, Sacré Printemps ! concert théâtral, Leçon de Choses pièce burlesque pour salle de classe, Must go on (Lansman), pièce à danser, créée à L’usine C à Montréal en 2016, au Théâtre de l’Union, CDN du Limousin, à la Cartoucherie de Vincennes – Atelier de Paris, dans le cadre du Festival des Ecoles du Théâtre Public.

En 2007 la Comédie Française lui commande une pièce courte, Les Descendants (Avant-scène théâtre) dont la poursuite donnera À l’Ouest, créé en 2012 aux théâtre des Célestins de Lyon et à Paris au théâtre du Rond-Point.

Sa pièce Spirit, a bénéficié du soutien du Royal Court Theatre de Londres, d’une résidence à la Chartreuse, a été présentée à Montréal au Festival Jamais Lu 2015 et sera créée dans la saison 2017/2018.

Elle créera Plus grand que moi en mars 2017 au Théâtre de l’Union, Centre Dramatique du Limousin, avec le soutien de à La Chartreuse.

Elle est artiste coopératrice au Théâtre de l’Union, CDN du Limousin, membre de La Coopérative d’Écriture, et intervenante à l’Université de la Mousson d’été depuis 2012. Boursière du CNL en 1999, son travail est régulièrement soutenu par le CNT, la SACD, la DRAC Ile de France, et la Chartreuse (CNES). En 2010, A l’Ouest est sélectionné par le bureau des lecteurs de la Comédie Française et reçoit le Prix de la Fondation Barrière 2011. En juillet 2016, elle est nommée Chevalière des Arts et Lettres.

Nathalie Fillion is a Paris-based writer and director. She began her career as a performer, having trained at Théâtre Gô Paris. She began to write for the theatre, alongside performing, in the mid-1990s.

Her breakout play was Alex Legrand, which toured around France in a production directed by Fillion, playing over 100 performances to critical acclaim. Following on from this, the most prestigious of France’s National Theatres, La Comédie Française, commissioned a short play, Les descendants, which has been translated into Romanian and Italian and staged in Rome.

Her play, A l’Ouest, was co-produced by, amongst other organizations, the Théâtre des Célestins de Lyon and Théâtre du Rond Point, in Paris; it toured, in 2012-13, to these and other theatres around France. A l’Ouest is translated into several languages, premiered in Germany in 2014 (directed by Mathias Faltz) and was read in in Montreal, and in San Francisco’s Des Voix Festival, in 2012, in an English-language version titled Out There.

A polyglot, musician and traveler, she collaborates with musicians and choreographers, exploring different forms in her productions. Her libretto Lady Godiva, Opéra pour un flipper had a stage reading in the Festival d’Avignon In (2006) and was performed in the Amphitheater of the Opéra Bastille.

Pling, a musical tale, was staged with 50 musicians and singers (2008), Sacré Printemps ! a theatrical concert premiered at the Centquatre in Paris (2013), is still on tour, as well as Leçon de choses, a burlesque play for classrooms,

In 2016, she directed along with a choregrapher a production of her play, Must Go On, with the students of the École Supérieure Professionnelle de Théâtre du Limousin; performed in Montréal’s Usine C, in Limoges, and in Paris, at l’Atelier Carolyn Carlson – Cartoucherie de Vincennes.

Her shorter play Plus grand que moi was premiere in March 2017 and performed in La Chartreuse during the Festival d’Avignon 2017.

Her latest full-length play is Spirit: comédie occulte du 21ème siècle has received support from the Chartreuse and the Royal Court Theatre in London. Fillion will direct the world premiere production of Spirit in January 2018.

She has been invited to Quebec frequently. Her plays have been translated into several languages, presented and performed in Russia, the USA, Quebec, Italy, Germany and Armenia.

She is a collaborating artist with the Théâtre de L’Union, CDN du Limousin and founding member of La Coopérative d’Ecriture.

She teaches in two national drama schools : l’ESCA d’Asnières and l’Ecole du Nord, as well as at the Summer University of La Mousson d’été.

Fillion’s writing is an attempt, she says to “put into play a multiplicity of points of view around the same question. I try to let the complexity of the world and its inhabitants emerge. . . . I lie in wait for the epic in a time without heroes and struggle with the way women are represented. Dialogue, polyphony, entanglement impose themselves, and any number of theatricalities inhabit each play, as any number ofrealities inhabit this world.”

In July 2016 Nathalie Fillion was named a Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministère de la Culture of France.
